Description:
Participants in this workshop will dive deeply into the Question Formulation Technique (QFT), a simple, step-by-step strategy developed by the Right Question Institute (RQI), designed to teach students and adults how to ask, improve upon, and pursue their own questions. Educators regularly describe this strategy as “learn today, use tomorrow.” Participants will explore case studies and classroom work demonstrating how the QFT can be deployed for a variety of purposes in every grade level and every subject area, in diverse pre-k through higher education classrooms all over the world. And students are reaping the benefits. A growing body of research as well as testimonials from well over 650,000 teachers worldwide who are now using the QFT indicates that student question formulation is tied to significant gains in memory and retention, literacy and critical thinking skills, engagement and curiosity.
However, the QFT is not just for students. As a former English teacher and department chair turned Dean of Teaching and Learning, Rika Drea will share with participants how she has used the QFT in her roles as both a teacher and administrator to create environments for students and faculty where all feel comfortable to participate, engage, and learn deeply together.
