RQI’s Andrew Minigan will be presenting a keynote session, and three workshops at the OETC 2020 conference.
Keynote: Question Formulation: A Fundamental Skill for Thinking, Learning, and Researching
10:30am – 12:00pm, Union Station Ballroom A
Participants will experience a brief introduction to the value of question formulation for thinking, learning, and researching. There will also be a brief experience in formulating and working with one’s own questions, previewing the powerful, yet simple Question Formulation Technique (QFT). Beyond this preview, participants will have the opportunity to learn how they might use the QFT in their classrooms and courses during other sessions at the conference.
1:00 pm – 2:00 pm, Union Station Ballroom C
This active learning workshop will introduce participants to the Question Formulation Technique (QFT), a powerful yet simple evidence-based strategy used by over 350,000 educators around the world. The QFT teaches all students how to ask their own questions, and may be used across all disciplines and grade levels (from kindergarten, through higher education, and beyond) to support different teaching and learning goals. Participants may attend this session without attending the follow-up session.
Workshop: Develop a Plan to Teach Your Students How to Ask Their Own Questions
2:15 pm – 3:15 pm, Union Station Ballroom C
This active learning workshop is a follow-up to the Introduction to the Question Formulation Technique (QFT). Participants must attend the previous session to attend this session. Participants will learn more on how to facilitate the strategy, and will have the opportunity to plan on how to best integrate the QFT into their instruction to support their ongoing work. Participants will: • Do hands-on work on the art of facilitating the QFT • Practice Question Focus design • Begin to develop a QFT lesson using a planning tool
