The Right Question Institute will be delivering a keynote session and breakout sessions at Passaic County Technical Institute. This is a closed event for teachers at Passaic. Details about the sessions are as follows:
Keynote Session
The session will include:
- A discussion of the importance of the skill of question formulation from various sources, including educators in the field, academics, and researchers
- An active, collaborative learning experience using the Question Formulation Technique on an authentic challenge facing educators (to be delivered exactly as the QFT can be taught in the classroom)
- An exploration of relevant student work examples and case studies from educators across the country demonstrating the application of the QFT across a wide range of different fields, disciplines, and careers including legal, business, and health settings, the sciences, and culinary and performing arts.
- A closing argument about the importance of questioning now more than ever
- Opportunities for reflection

Breakout Sessions
Breakout sessions will be held for Science teachers, and another for History and Social studies teachers.
In these sessions, teachers will:
- Review the steps of the QFT from the morning keynote.
- Learn best practices for lesson planning with the QFT.
- Have hands-on, collaborative practice with QFocus design and lesson planning.
- Review video examples from a science classroom and learn tips for modifying the QFT that are specific to the sciences.
- Teachers will complete a lesson plan and leave with tools to continue to finesse their lesson after the session.
- For the History and Social Studies session, teachers will also be introduced to the free resources on primary source learning, available at the Library of Congress, and practice searching for relevant primary sources to combine with the QFT.
