Our strategies and resources are the outcomes of decades of work. We continue to learn with practitioners across many fields to develop and simplify two robust processes,

  • The Question Formulation Technique, which helps all individuals learn how to formulate, work with, and use their own questions. Through learning how to ask their own questions everyone, students, parents, clients, and patients alike, can become more engaged, critical thinkers.
  • The Voice in Decisions Technique, formerly known as the Framework for Accountable Decision Making, which helps individuals, learn for themselves how to effectively participate in decisions that affect them. Through learning how to effectively participate in decision, the decision-making process becomes more democratic and all individuals are equipped with skills to advocate for themselves.

This is the first time I have written to any source of one of my teaching methods to thank them for providing me with such a powerful book to unlock the learning process… I have been teaching since 1977. I have studied techniques and pedagogy. In all that time, I have never found anything that was so profoundly influential in changing how students learn. Not only did it immediately engage the students in their own learning, it stayed with them throughout a 17-week semester…

I learned that my opinion counts.

The QFT helped refine questions I did not think could be serious into strong questions that could lead to better advance my research.

Recognizing that the genius of democracy is in its roots, [RQI] sets about strengthening those roots. By helping people learn how to help themselves the project makes possible the vital process of converting residents into effective citizens… The project offers the possibility of strengthening the vital core of our society.

I plan to use the QFT to generate curiosity at the beginning of semester and to let students generate research paper ideas at semester end.
