Imaan graduated from the University of Chicago with a bachelor’s degree in English and gender and sexuality studies. Additionally, she pursued a minor in the field of education and society to better understand the state of education from a policy, historical, and cultural perspective. Outside of the classroom, she volunteered in neighborhood elementary schools as a tutor and teacher’s aide. She also worked in the College Graduation Office at Chicago’s Urban Education Institute, and previously she was an editorial intern at Encyclopedia Britannica. A Chicago native, Imaan is committed to her home city’s school district, as well as learning how to best support varied teacher and student populations with their own unique contexts. She appreciates RQI’s accessible approach to professional learning and its advocacy for the engagement of all students in their distinct educational journeys.
