RQI's Sarah Westbrook spoke to Kimberly Douglas on the Learning Vibes Podcast, exploring topics such as the power dynamics that often come into play around asking questions, different cultural norms, the skill of being strategic with questions, and more.
The podcast Choose to Be Curious recently featured a conversation with Patty Gómez, an educator in South Florida who is chair of the world languages department at her school. When using the Question Formulation Technique, "We can definitely be sure that we are going to set curiosity in motion; it's going to happen," she said.
In Mobile, Alabama, Chelsea Lawrence started and helped nurture a community of teachers dedicated to teaching students how to ask their own questions. It's led to a feeling of camaraderie, and students now expect to be able to ask their own questions, whatever they’re learning.
Patty Gómez, a department chair at a South Florida school, used the Question Formulation Technique with colleagues to enhance teamwork and have productive group decision-making sessions about student assessment practices. “It really leads to a mindset change,” she said of the process.
