with Christina Buffington, Research Staff and Science Education Specialist, International Arctic Research Center at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF); Adjunct Faculty, UAF’s Department of Natural Resources & Environment
Sometimes it takes a brave colleague to share the Question Formulation Technique (QFT) at a professional development session. For Christina (Christi) Buffington, Science Education Specialist at the International Arctic Research Center, a colleague’s risk five years ago was Christi’s reward. Since then, Christi has engaged K-12 youth, undergraduate students, and now other academic colleagues in using QFT for science inquiry. This session will share successes to emulate and pitfalls to avoid in well-planned vs. impromptu settings, both in-person and online. Christi will also showcase examples of using QFT in culturally responsive ways to initiate semester-long investigations using Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) – a citizen science program in 123 countries.
